    Floral Design


  • A mass arrangement staged at the entrance to the flower show on an off-white pedestal 42” h x 24” w x 24” d. Design must be between 30 and 36 inches in all directions. Viewed from three sides. Collaboration allowed with two entrants.
  • A hand tied nosegay staged in a 2” h x 5” w round glass vase with a three-inch floral pin provided. Embellishment may be used. Design may not exceed 10” h x 8” w. Entrant should provide material to hide mechanics of floral pin. Staged on a 50” h x 10” w x 10” d off-white pedestal. Viewed from all sides.
  • A miniature arrangement in a demitasse cup with saucer not to exceed five inches in any direction. Arrangements will be placed on top of a 4” x 6” round, glass pedestal placed on a 42-inch high table draped with a white tablecloth. Viewed from all sides.
  • A traditional arrangement interpreting the bridal bouquet staged on an off-white pedestal 40”h x 14” w x 14” d. Design may not exceed 24 inches in width and upper height (top of pedestal to top of arrangement). Viewed from three sides.
  • A contemporary design staged on a black pedestal 42”h x 24” w x 24” d. Design may not exceed more than three inches beyond the surface of the pedestal in any one direction. No height restriction. Viewed from all sides.

    Horticulture


  • Herbs have been used in cooking and medicine for centuries. Each entry must include a Key Card explaining the use of the particular herb(s) used in the display and its floriography. Exhibitor must have owned the herbs for a minimum of three months.
    a. A single culinary herb shown in a terra cotta clay pot not to exceed 10 inches.
    b. A single medicinal herb shown in a terra cotta clay pot not to exceed 10 inches.
    c. A collection of herbs shown in a terra cotta clay pot. Key Card required; see Horticulture Guideline #11.
  • A Gladioli propagation challenge is open only to the Garden Club of Denver members. The Gladioli courmous will be distributed May 1st, 2021. One blooming stem not to exceed 30 inches in length from the lip of the container to the tip. Container and wedging material provided by the committee. A propagation card stating dates and method of care is required.
  • A single plant exhibited along with the parent plant from which it was propagated, each in a separate but compatible container. The maximum pot size for the child is 8 inches in diameter and 12 inches in diameter for the mother. A propagation card is required as well as the floriography of the plant. Both plants will be judged. Nine months ownership required for the mother plant.
  • The Artichoke propagation challenge is open only to the Garden Club of Denver members. The artichoke plant will be distributed May 1st . The plant will be shown in a terra cotta clay pot not to exceed 16 inches in diameter. A propagation card stating method of care is required
  • a. Garden Folly - A miniature design created in a 22 ½ l x 12” w x 4” h wooden box provided by the committee. Accessories are permitted. A Key Card is required including the floriography of the plants. Plant material may not extend more than 1 inch over the sides of the container. No height restriction. No minimum ownership requirement. To be viewed from all sides and above. Entry fee $20.
    b. Garden Of Eden 3 Entries - A design containing all mixed plants which are culturally compatible. Planted in a container of the exhibitor’s choice but not to exceed (20” l x 10” w x 8” h). A Key Card is required including the floriography of the plants. Plant material may not extend more than 4 inches over the sides of the container. No height restriction. To be viewed from all sides and above.
  •  

    Photography


  • Convey a mood using flowers, composition and uniqueness of background. One or more flowers on flat backdrop. Multiple species permitted. Flowers only on paper, fabric or another flat surface. No vases. Mounted on black foam core cut to the exact size of the image (flush mounted). Identification and floriography of plant materials is required.
  • Record three distinct phases of a flower’s life cycle (multiple blooms permitted) in a triptych format. 5” x 5” color or black and white, matte finish, mounted on an 8” x 21” off-white mat board. Center photos with a 1.5-inch border all around and in-between photographs (no over matting). Identification and floriography of plant material are required. Smartphone photographs only.
  • Utilize the “special time of day," either the golden hour or the blue hour, to capture emotive, natural landscape. A landscape is a view of the scenery, of any kind from wilderness vistas to urban cityscapes, land or sea. Primary subject is the scenery and it must dominate although the image may contain secondary elements such as people, animals or objects. City elements predominate in cityscapes; sea predominates in seascapes. Landscape orientation refers to the horizontal orientation of the image or page. Images must be mounted on black foam core cut to the exact size of the image (flush mounted).
  • A close-up or macro image of an intricate flower. A close-up is a photo taken close to the subject or with a long focal-length lens to permit a close and detailed view of the object. The object fills most of the frame. A macro is an image in which the subject is greater than life-size. Entry card to include the identification of the flower and its floriography and why it was chosen. Mounted on black foam core cut to the exact size of the image (flush mounted).
  • Garden Surprise – Panorama - 8” x 24” color, matte finish photograph. Flowers are a required element in the photograph. Mounted on black foam core cut to the exact size of the image (flush mounted). Identification of up to three prominent flower species and their floriography is required.
  •  

    Botanical Arts


  • Botanical Jewelry - Design and create a Tussie mussie pin with flowers inside, reflecting the message of the gift. It will be displayed on a 5-inch diameter black velvet mount. Entry may not exceed the size of the mount. The mount will be provided at the time of registration. Viewed from above.
  • Botanical Embellishment - A wooden picture frame measuring 6”x 8”x 1”, suitable for a photo of your beloved one, displayed on a black velvet mount. Botanical material may not exceed the size of the mount. The design can be done vertically or horizontally. The mount will be provided upon registration. Viewed from three sides and above.
  • Pressed Plant Creations - Create a design on a 9-inch wooden plate. The back of the plate may be painted but the front surface must be completely covered with natural pressed plant material. Entry will be displayed on a clear acrylic plate stand. The plate stand will be provided upon registration. Viewed from the front and above.
  •  

    Needle Arts


  • A hand painted canvas designed and painted by Kelly Clark will be provided by the Division Chairman and stitched and/or embellished by the exhibitor using her own materials on a 6” x 7” 18–count mesh canvas. Individual canvases will be assigned on a random basis by the Division Chairman. Finishing will be provided by the Division Chairman. The needlepoint will be displayed on a clear acrylic stand and will be viewed from the front.
