Garden Club of Denver Plants 2,612 Flowers at Civic Center Park

Civic Center Park, with stunning views of Denver’s beautiful City and County Building and the Colorado State Capitol, will brighten anyone’s day, thanks in part to the Garden Club of Denver’s dedication to Civic Center Conservancy’s initiatives.
On May 22, around a dozen members of our club transformed Civic Center Park into a floral showcase. As part of a partnership between the Garden Club of Denver and the Civic Center Conservancy, club members planted three large garden beds using flowers cultivated by the City of Denver’s Parks and Recreation Department. Two of the beds featured swirls of color, with the tallest blooms in the center, cascading to shorter flowers along the outer areas of the beds. The largest bed consists of bright diagonal rows. The layouts were designed by the Denver Parks and Rec group, who were there to lay out their design before our group set to work. In just a few hours, the Garden Club planted an impressive 2,612 flowers—double the number planted during Civic Center Conservancy’s three other group planting days combined.
Our efforts reflect GCD’s commitment to civic projects and community outreach while the industriousness with which we planted speaks to our ability to effectively work together. But our annual commitment to the park is not over! On September 30, GCD will return to Civic Center Park to harvest the park’s vegetable gardens for the Civic Center Conservancy’s partnership with Grow Local and Metro Caring.
Please visit Civic Center Park and admire the stunning floral displays now in bloom. We hope to see you and harvest with you at the end of September!
